1. Pick easy-to-read fonts only!
Yes, I know sometimes it is very tempting to choose beautiful decorative fonts, especially for newbies. To be honest, I've made the same mistakes myself ;)
Decorative fonts are great for a logo, but for everything else you should use fonts that are comfortable to read.
Good typography is the key to easily accessible information, whereas with poor typography you have to make an effort to understand the text.
We got just a couple of seconds for the user to make a decision to click on the banner. And properly designed text will help with that!
2. Choose the right photos!
The goal of a photo or illustration is to evoke the right emotion in the visitor's mind. That's why you shouldn't take the first picture you see!
If we make a banner for an affiliate program, it makes sense to show a happy webmaster who has just received a timely and solid payment from AP ;)
Sometimes it takes 2-3 hours to choose the best photo from a set, but trust me, it's worth it!
3. Use the colours of website
In most cases, it is worth sticking to the color scheme used on the advertised paysite or an affiliate program site.
Of course, you can experiment sometimes, but you should do it very carefully!
4. Prepare the text variations
Usually, you’ll have to make a batch of banners with different aspect ratios: horizontal, vertical and recip buttons.
So, it makes sense to prepare variations of the text for all of them.
5. Choose the right animation speed
If you make an animated banner, keep in mind that each frame must display for a minimum of two seconds.
It is common requirement of banner networks, so your ad will not pass moderation if it blinks too fast.
Thats it, guys!
